Ever make a comment you think will resonate, only to find everybody hates your thoughts? You expect countless recommended notifications only to find dozens of people telling you how wrong and stupid you are.

Here's some of mine

I hate recall posts

I think 70s custom vans are dumb (but cool in an ironic kind of way)

I think the elderly can get in a Town Car as easily as a crossover

This post (possibly)

Are there any viewpoints of yours that go against the grain? Think manuals aren't all they're cracked up to be? secretly hate Miatas? don't care for Regular Car Reviews or Chris Harris? think the new Mustang doesn't look like an Accord? You can talk about it, this is a safe place.

1. Cannot stand Matt Farah. Absolutely cannot at all.

2. RCR has its moments, but I think by and large it's pretty well overrated.

3. I have no problem judging stancers and don't buy that they get a pass because "they're enthusiasts too".

Politically I'm in the minority here, but luckily everyone in Oppo is cautious about sensitive subjects.

I also seem to be the only one who thinks that manual-swapping a Subaru SVX is heresy.

I respectfully disagree with this picture.

I don't think a manual transmission is a substitute for your needs. For example if I picked up a manual Tacoma, I would lose an extra foot of bed length. I picked the extra foot.

Also, the clutch pedal is not a "man pedal." Tell that to the wounded veteran who physically can't drive stick.

EDIT: The FT-86 doesn't make you a good driver. You gotta be able to handle that shit. Probably one of the best rides I've had in a car was by one of my friends drifting around two light poles in his FR-S. (illegal, I know, but no one was around)

I bought an FR-S. It's not universal, but it has a lot of detractors.

I think it's alright to openly criticize cars and trends that you don't like. I laugh at the whole 'we're all enthusiasts, can't we all just get along?' posts.

And finally, I got absolutely shredded for admitting that I won't brush light snow off of my car.

Yes I own one, yes its a pretty decent car, not the best (by a long shot), but I like it because its different from the other cars, quirky as well. It isn't like a copy-paste, dime-a-dozen body style like so many other cars. Its unique, I don't see how that is a problem.

I also irrationally dislike puffery pieces of the "this is the wave of the future/what you'll be driving" sort. Sod off - I'll drive what I fucking want.

Honestly I think manuals are overrated. People talk about how you can "feel more" or "control it better". I'm sorry, but when it comes to technology, the manual gearbox is now the oil lantern in the LED-bulb world. It's just not as good. And if you have a decent automatic, you can do all of those things with your throttle response.

I think Saabs are overrated. They did some cool things, but it didn't blow anyone out of the water.

I think Honda's are good cars. They have a reasonable amount of power, good steering response, decent handling, pretty good looks, will last forever, and get good MPG's. I always recommend one for the normal person asking what new car they should buy.

What would you consider a decent auto? I've found that most modern autos of the adapt-to-the-driver type drive me bugfuck nuts. That is, if the auto does the same thing every time and there is a *correct* way to drive it (like an old-skool Benz auto), I can deal - the trans acting erratically because I anticipate its shifting with my throttle response and it expects an idiot to drive it leadfootedly "go pedal" style until at the right speed, no (don't remember which this was -possibly a Toyota). Autos that try to smooth their shifts and feel like two lurching steel cones covered in sandpaper and mashed potatoes -also no (v6 Camaro). Other people's autos that have learned how to be driven "wrong", and jump shift at low Rs - just no (a BMW I experienced lately).

Let's face it, autos are not necessarily a known quantity between different cars.

I don't particularly like the automatic hate. Chaparral built a goddamn automatic race car (so the driver's left foot could control the movable wing, but I digress). I have an auto, and so does my wife. It gives you one less distraction when driving the kid(s) around, no matter how absolutely minor it is. In my case, more important is that my wife has no interest in driving a manual, and both of us being able to drive both cars is very important.

Now, if I ever get the chance to buy a fun weekend car, it's going to be a manual. Unless it's a Chaparral, because at that point I don't even care.

I'm with you about the snow. Living in Colorado, you get the huge clumps of snow that fall off of the car in front of you on the highway. It doesn't make you skid out of control, and if it hits your car, there are these cool things called windshield wipers that get it off.

I don't see the big deal. I brush the car off only because the snow flies onto my rear window and I can't see. Also I have a 14 year old car, not worried about the paint...

Yes, some automatics (like the ones you mentioned) are just plain crap.
I hate to go with Honda again, but alas, I don't have any other examples. My mother's automatic in her trailblazer is shit, and the camry rental I had (exactly like that recent article) was shit as well.
My 14-year old honda, however, actually has a good auto. I press harder on the gas pedal, it either downshifts and gets me up to speed, or just kicks the engine in the ass and gets me up to speed. Either way, it does what I tell it. Then when I get the pedal back just a wee bit, it shifts up and we cruise comfortably. It doesn't do any weird shit in slow traffic. I understand this is rare, but I feel there are good auto's out there.

1. Have no problem stancing toyobarus; I can imagine plenty of people have given up on making them genuinely fast.

2. Most 4 cylinder engines sound like shit. Including mine. esp on the track. Few exceptions I can think of are Offenhauser (duh), some Alfa's and a Honda G23 above all Honda 4's. Subaru's do not get a pass just for having unequal length headers.

3. As a former student of journalism, it is a little obvious Jeremy Clarkson is a role model to many Jalop staffers and that is bad. Very bad. Clarkson doesn't even do a good colloquial Clarkson. Same goes for Speedhunters. I just look a the pictures.

4. In no way do I hate on Paris Hilton for owning an LFA. I applaud it. She's chose a Spyker to compete in a gumball rally and has been around awesome cars her whole stupid rich life. She's allowed to have good taste.

1. Spirited driving on public roads is the dumbest thing ever. I don't care if there's no cars on the road, it is not a race track and should not be used as such.

2. The Miata is not always the answer. See above and below comments.

3. Track cars should not be street driven! A car optimized to handle great on a track typically feel not so great on the road (shock/spring packages, tires, suspension geometry, etc), and in order to go even faster the comforts needed for the road (carpet, sound deadening material, etc.) is usually removed which makes driving on public roads even worse. So why compromise in either respect?

4. Wankels are not the best engine out there.

5. I don't hate stanced cars, they just aren't my cup of tea. Though when people take a picture of anything and say "ZOMG IT'S STANCE!!!", that makes me want to punch bunnies.

6. "Hot Hatch" cars =/= Sports Cars. If they were, why are "Hot Hatches" racing in the BTCC/WTCC instead of GT1?

7. Supercars are boring. I don't know why, may go along with #3 above, but I just don't care for them.

I guess that's enough ranting for now. Carry on.

I think Ferrari flat-plane V8's sound like vacuums.

I don't get the obsession behind gated shifters. The clinking would get annoying after awhile.

I guess my problems are centered on Doug DeMuro.

You're the anti-opponaut.

I mean, I don't hold anything against you or anything, but this list is literally the opposite of every single opposite lock trope (except for your Montego, it's badass).

You're the opposite opponaut. The opposite of opposite lock. It's...beautiful. I think you've won opposite lock

Here's the way I think of it - it takes a really shitty manual to be worse than what I find more and more to be the median auto in terms of what I can't stand. I'll grant Hondas typically as an exception, actually. Anything else, though, the continuing march of technology to help shitty drivers seems to work actively to impede driving enjoyment from my point of view. Is it "fake" to allow any bozo to control upshifts and downshifts from the column paddles, when the system is designed to mush his idiocy into meaningful output *interpretively*, and convince him he has more control over a (horrifyingly abstracted) system than he does because the idiot must be thrilled? I don't know, but I know I don't like it.

1) James Glickenhaus is a dick, and the P4/5 is ugly

2) The Ferrari 458 is ugly

3) Manuals do not necessarily equate to driving pleasure or safer driving

4) Formula 1 is as boring as NASCAR

5) Toyota "beige" comments and articles are trite and cliched

6) I am decidedly fond of the C4

7) Marek Reichmann has the aesthetic tastes of a deep sea space potato

8) Theme days suck are horribly annoying

9) Diesels suck

10) Hybrid technology is the way of the future

11) The Volt is cool

12) The new STI is no more exciting looking than the WRX

13) 80s American shitboxes are surprisingly fun

14) I'd rather shit in the ocean than own a new Cherokee

15) The Aztek is cool

Honestly, I'm kind of with you on this. It's pretty hard to screw up a manual, that is for sure. I just feel like nowadays, if it isn't a sportscar, the auto groups generally push for more MPG's in their automatics, which typically make them shittier. We need some common ground! Maybe paddle shifters really are the way to go...

Hahahahaha, dieing over here. I may have a giant list of things I'm not a fan of.

But I have a very large list of things I do enjoy. And just because I hate Porsche's (damn German cars lol) doesn't mean I don't respect their ability on a track. That's the only reason I fit in around here.

I can't keep the Japanese engine numbers straight, nor do I care to.

I don't agree with how gals are viewed here sometimes, and I think it heavily encourages the perception of Jalopnik as a "Boys' Club".

I don't like the NSFW posts. I think they contribute to opinion number 2.

I love Ford 302 swaps much more than Chevy 350/LS swaps, to the point of being obstinate.

I think IndyCar is superior and more approachable than Formula, but factory-backed production cars with minimal changes make for the best racing, Trans-Am style.

I would take a Spitfire or a Fiat Spider or an MGB over a Miata (Although a clean NB would be nice).

Looks, sound, and character trump performance when buying a car.

The J-body/K-platform LeBaron with the Mitsubishi V6 is a wonderful car, and I think the TC is a great car too.

Ok, I'll admit, I'm a new *rookie*wannabe* gearhead and I had to look up wheel bearings. From the gist of it, I know I replaced it at least once. In FL (a few years ago), the heat literally started to tear my tires apart. I *foolishly* ignored the car shaking until my wife begged me to take it in. In the end, I had to have new tires, realigned axle, new bearings, etc. I believe it was that point I started actually taking care of my car. I'm learning still.

I gotta ask then, is that standard? I'm still learning things on how to take care of my car, and I'm always looking for better ways to take care of my car.
